Paul Syers Ph.D., works as a Technology Manager for the Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Technologies Office with a background in energy conversion, semiconductors, cybersecurity in industrial systems, and technology commercialization. Paul is responsible for overseeing AMMTO’s High Performance Computing for Manufacturing (HPC4Mfg) program, entrepreneurial innovation programs (including the Lab Embedded Entrepreneurship Program), and Power Electronics strategic development, which includes the development of new initiatives and inter-office coordination and collaboration.

Department of Energy Activities & Perspectives on Powering the Transformation of Our Energy Future

Power electronics technologies are at the center of conversion, distribution, and use of electrical power in today’s critical infrastructure applications including the power grid, large-scale industrial manufacturing, electrified transportation, and digital communications. Innovations in power electronics are pivotal to achieving U.S. clean energy and decarbonization goals over the next decades. This talk will provide some highlights of AMMTO’s and other DOE office activities supporting the R&D, demonstration, and scale-up of wide bandgap power electronics, as well as sharing some information on how these advanced power electronics technologies fit into priorities and goals.
